Not more than 40 minutes by car from Verbania, Lago di Orta, another famous Italian lake, is located. It is visited thanks to its beauty and the picturesque Isola San Giulio with a monastery. Limnologists may know it as formerly one of the most polluted European lakes that has wonderfully recovered from heavy metal contamination.
